A few quick updates…

Things are moving slowly but surely in the world of research. Here are two quick updates.

First, Dr. Deane Aikins, an expert in the field of PTSD in combat veterans, has agreed to be interviewed for this project. He has done extensive work with the military, both in examination and in various treatment methodologies. His input will be invaluable.

Second, it looks like I’m to have to cross Houghton Mifflin Harcourt off of the list of possible houses to publish my work.  According to their FAQ, “Houghton Mifflin Harcourt regrets that we can no longer consider unsolicited poetry. Since our poetry publishing program is quite small, we have decided to reserve it for the authors to whom Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has already made a commitment. Please seek out resources like Poet’s Market if you want to pursue publication.”

Ah well. There are still plenty of avenues to take with this.

  1. It’s excellent that you’ve already gotten an interview candidate lined up. How did you meet and make contact with him?

I haven’t yet figured out who I’m going to be trying to interview, since I have been focused more on my readings and field research. I took a rather enlightening trip to a museum and I’ve got another planned tomorrow to, believe it or not, a hockey game. It’ll be interesting to immerse myself in a live gathering of sports culture in that way.

  2. Ah, that stinks about Houghton Mifflin Harcourt not accepting poetry solicitations any more. Have you found a new publication to query? Whoever says “yes” to you surely won’t regret it! Great work so far.
